Augmented Reality start up Poplar had recently secured a significant investment round and needed to hire a Technical Lead to lead and grow the engineering team as well as drive product innovation.
A key goal for the hiring campaign was to reflect the companies deeply held value of diversity. Previous attempts to source a diverse shortlist of candidates had been unsuccessful and Poplar engaged Propel to help.
Propel worked with Co-founder and CTO Laurie Ainley to craft the candidate profile and then set to work on delivering a shortlist of candidates through proactive headhunting, referrals and targeted advertising.
The technical competencies required and the importance of diversity in the shortlist made this a challenging search. Happily, after a through process and a number of rounds of interviews Poplar were able to hire an outstanding candidate who fit the profile perfectly.
The specific requirements of the position simply meant that reactive recruitment methods wouldn’t be enough. We were able to use our expertise to work through long established networks of candidates as well as targeting candidates with the specific profile Poplar were looking for.
Propel produced a comprehensive marketing pack and ran a campaign that took Poplar’s proposition to the sort of people they were looking to hire. Candidates responding to the program of outreach were pre-screened initially on a phone call before being interviewed by video call. Successful candidates were then presented to Poplar and Propel manged the interview and offer process.
Propel succeeded in hiring a Technical Lead that perfectly met Poplar’s requirement, the second successful hire made in partnership with Propel.
